I am the mother of three beautiful children, aged 18, 14 and 6. I’ve experienced, first hand, the highs and the lows of being a mother/parent. I know how hard, confusing and extremely tiring parenting can be, especially in the early days of uncertainty.
It has gone extremely quickly, and sometimes I cannot believe it, but I now have almost 30 yrs of experience working with mothers, fathers and their babies. After becoming an enrolled nurse, I undertook further training to become a mothercraft nurse at Karitane in Sydney. After Karitane I joined the Tresillian residential care team and have worked as a nanny. Inspired to continue working in this field and enrich my learning I ventured abroad working extensively through the UK, Europe and America. During this time, I worked as an in-home maternity nurse, supporting, assisting and educating new parents in newborn care, breast and bottle feeding, sleep, settling and routine establishment.
Inspired by my experiences I returned to Australia and established my own sleep consultancy/mothercraft home visiting service enabling me to develop further my successful feeding, sleeping and settling techniques.
It was during this time I self-published ‘Maternal Matters’, a comprehensive guide to the first 12 months of parenting. I am very proud to say that it has helped hundreds of families both here and abroad, with the establishment of healthy workable routines for their babies.
Inspired by her experiences, Jen returned to Australia where she established her own mother-care home visiting service. Yet, even with this background the past 16 years of her own life may have been the most challenging so far.
My experience covers the full range of parental issues including:
- Newborn care
- Developmental milestones
- Unsettled babies
- Fussy feeders
- Sleeping issues
- Twins and triplets
- Postnatal depression
- Tired and anxious parents
I have answered online forums, have written articles for popular parenting magazines and websites and have appeared on television presenting parenting issues.
Recently, my latest baby was born when I launched WOTBaby. A personalized early parenting App which I created as an extension of ‘Maternal Matters’. The WOTBaby app is designed to support and guide parents and caregivers through the first six months of parenting and contains instructional videos and vast amount of helpful information on feeding, settling, sleep and play.
Throughout my career, my passion has always been supporting and educating new parents; however, my biggest achievement to date was definitely becoming a mother myself. It has shown me how immensely rewarding, proud and complete one can feel.
